Samigina

The 4th of the seventy-two, a marquis. Teaches the liberal sciences. In the language of this path, Samigina is a shadow pole — worked only with its angel, Elemiah.

What the grimoires say

In the 1904 Goetia, Samigina is a Marquis governing 30 legions. Teaches the liberal sciences; gives account of the souls of the dead.

A great marquis who first appears as a small horse or donkey and then, at the operator's request, takes human shape and speaks in a hoarse voice; he is said to teach the liberal sciences and to give account of the souls of those who died in sin or drowned at sea.

“The Fourth Spirit is Samigina, a Great Marquis. He appeareth in the form of a little Horse or Ass, and then into Human shape doth he change himself at the request of the Master. He speaketh with a hoarse voice. He ruleth over 30 Legions of Inferiors. He teacheth all Liberal Sciences, and giveth account of Dead Souls that died in sin.”— Mathers & Crowley, The Goetia (1904), public domain

The shadow it carries

Stripped to the bone, Samigina's traditional office turns on contact with and knowledge of the dead — especially souls said to have died in sin, drowned at sea, or to dwell in an intermediate state. Read plainly, that is a real human force; in the language of this path its raw, unowned form is a shadow pole. Its shadow is what that force does when it runs you from the dark; its gold is the same force — seen, owned, governed.

You never reach for it alone. Its light pole is the angel Elemiah; met together, behind protection, Samigina becomes a disowned part of yourself approached while the light is already in the room.

Correspondences

A word of honesty first: almost none of the table below is from the old grimoires. The rank, legions, direction and office are traditional; the planet, day, colour, tarot, incense and the Enn are modern attributions (mostly 20th–21st-century Demonolatry and correspondence compilations), and the sources openly disagree. Use them as a working frame, not as law.

CorrespondenceValueWhere it comes from
Zodiac / decanapprox. 15-19 degrees of Aries (region of the second decan)Modern astrological-Goetia scheme derived from the 5-degree Shem-angel quinary; not in the historical grimoires.
TarotFive of PentaclesModern practitioner correspondence tables; internally inconsistent across sources — the strict Golden Dawn decan scheme would instead assign the Three of Wands to the second Aries decan. Flagged modern, non-canonical.
PlanetMoonModern practitioner tables; sources conflict (others give Mercury). No planet is assigned in the historical grimoires. Flagged modern.
DayMondayModern — derived from the Moon attribution above; not traditional.
ElementEarthModern practitioner tables; some list Water instead. Not in the grimoires. Flagged modern.
MetalSilverModern practitioner tables (consistent with the Moon attribution). Not traditional.
Candle colourPurple / violetModern practitioner tables. Not traditional.
IncenseJasmineModern practitioner tables. Not traditional; suggestion only.
PlantJasmineModern practitioner tables, following the incense. No plant is named in the grimoires. Flagged modern.
AnimalHorse / ass (donkey)Grounded in the grimoire text itself — his stated manifesting form (Goetia 1904); the best-attested correspondence here.
Date windowapprox. April 4-8Modern 'Goetic birthday' quinary scheme (Sun transiting ~15-19 deg Aries); classed a Day Demon in Connolly's Demonolatry. Not in the historical sources; some tables shift the window by a day or two.

Its modern Enn — a chant from the Demonolatry current, not found in any grimoire:

“Esta ta et tasa Gamigin”

Making a connection

Gathered from what practitioners report, put plainly — a starting point, not a rule:

Never alone — the angel first. This is a shadow pole, and the whole discipline of this path is that you never reach for one by itself. Call its angel, Elemiah (Shem angel #4), first; work behind protection, inside a cast circle; and witness, don't become. If you have not yet read it, start with The Goetic Spirits — Safely. This is advanced work and it is not a substitute for mental-health care.

Rank, legions, direction and office are from the public-domain grimoires (Weyer 1577; Mathers & Crowley, The Goetia, 1904). Images are public domain: the 1904 seal. The Enn and the planet/day/colour/tarot correspondences are modern attributions (Demonolatry and compilations), flagged as such; sources disagree, and no copyrighted description or artwork is reproduced. Angel pairing per the Rudd tradition. Take the technique, never the tribe.

“The dead are not gone, only quiet. Learn their tongue and they answer.”
