Haures

The 64th of the seventy-two, a duke. Gives true answers. In the language of this path, Haures is a shadow pole — worked only with its angel, Mehiel.

What the grimoires say

In the 1904 Goetia, Haures is a Duke governing 36 legions. Gives true answers; guards against other spirits (truthful only in the Triangle).

The 1904 Goetia gives a great duke first appearing as a mighty, terrible leopard, then at command taking the shape of a man with flaming fiery eyes and a fearsome face. Le Breton's 1863 engraving (as 'Flauros') shows the leopard form. (My own summary.)

“The Sixty-fourth Spirit is Haures, or Hauras, or Havres, or Flauros. He is a Great Duke, and appeareth at first like a Leopard, Mighty, Terrible, and Strong, but after a while, at the Command of the Exorcist, he putteth on the Shape of a Man with Eyes Flaming and Fiery, and a most Terrible Countenance. He giveth True Answers of all things Present, Past, and to Come. But if he be not commanded into a Triangle he will Lie in all these Things, and deceive and beguile the Exorcist. He governeth 36 Legions of Spirits.”— Mathers & Crowley, The Goetia (1904), public domain

The shadow it carries

Stripped to the bone, Haures's traditional office turns on protection and defence — especially against other spirits and psychic/spiritual attack. Read plainly, that is a real human force; in the language of this path its raw, unowned form is a shadow pole. Its shadow is what that force does when it runs you from the dark; its gold is the same force — seen, owned, governed.

You never reach for it alone. Its light pole is the angel Mehiel; met together, behind protection, Haures becomes a disowned part of yourself approached while the light is already in the room.

Correspondences

A word of honesty first: almost none of the table below is from the old grimoires. The rank, legions, direction and office are traditional; the planet, day, colour, tarot, incense and the Enn are modern attributions (mostly 20th–21st-century Demonolatry and correspondence compilations), and the sources openly disagree. Use them as a working frame, not as law.

Making a connection

Gathered from what practitioners report, put plainly — a starting point, not a rule:

Never alone — the angel first. This is a shadow pole, and the whole discipline of this path is that you never reach for one by itself. Call its angel, Mehiel (Shem angel #64), first; work behind protection, inside a cast circle; and witness, don't become. If you have not yet read it, start with The Goetic Spirits — Safely. This is advanced work and it is not a substitute for mental-health care.

Rank, legions, direction and office are from the public-domain grimoires (Weyer 1577; Mathers & Crowley, The Goetia, 1904). Images are public domain: the 1904 seal and Louis Le Breton’s Dictionnaire Infernal engraving (1863). The Enn and the planet/day/colour/tarot correspondences are modern attributions (Demonolatry and compilations), flagged as such; sources disagree, and no copyrighted description or artwork is reproduced. Angel pairing per the Rudd tradition. Take the technique, never the tribe.

“He is honest only when held. So is anger — bounded it guards, loose it burns.”
