What the grimoires say
In the 1904 Goetia, Amy is a President governing 36 legions. Teaches astrology and the liberal sciences; reveals treasure.
A Great President who first appears as a flaming fire, then puts on the shape of a man. He teaches astrology and the liberal sciences, provides good familiar spirits, and reveals treasures that are guarded by other spirits. He rules 36 legions. The text adds that he hopes - in vain - to return to the seventh (heavenly) throne after 1,200 years.
“The Fifty-eighth Spirit is Amy. He is a Great President, and appeareth at first in the Form of a Flaming Fire; but after a while he putteth on the Shape of a Man. His Office is to make one Wonderful Knowing in Astrology and all the Liberal Sciences. He giveth Good Familiars, and can bewray Treasure that is kept by Spirits. He governeth 36 Legions of Spirits. The shadow it carries
Stripped to the bone, Amy's traditional office turns on astrology, occult study and the liberal sciences - a teacher of the stars. Read plainly, that is a real human force; in the language of this path its raw, unowned form is a shadow pole. Its shadow is what that force does when it runs you from the dark; its gold is the same force — seen, owned, governed.
You never reach for it alone. Its light pole is the angel Yeialel; met together, behind protection, Amy becomes a disowned part of yourself approached while the light is already in the room.
Correspondences
A word of honesty first: almost none of the table below is from the old grimoires. The rank, legions, direction and office are traditional; the planet, day, colour, tarot, incense and the Enn are modern attributions (mostly 20th–21st-century Demonolatry and correspondence compilations), and the sources openly disagree. Use them as a working frame, not as law.
| Correspondence | Value | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Element | Fire | modern Demonolatry (enn/element tradition) |
| Tarot | 5 of Cups | modern Golden Dawn-based compilation (Goetic Impressions) |
| Zodiac/decan (GD table) | Scorpio, 1st decan | modern Golden Dawn-based compilation; varies by source |
| Zodiac (paired Shem angel) | Capricorn 15-20 deg | Kabbalistic Shem 5-deg attribution of angel Yeialel - different system, disagrees with GD table |
| Planet | Mercury (some give Sun/Jupiter for the fire+astrology theme) | modern occult compilation; varies |
| Day | Wednesday | modern (follows Mercury) |
| Metal | Mercury/quicksilver | modern (follows Mercury) |
| Candle colour | Orange (also gold/red for the fire theme) | modern occult compilation |
| Incense | Storax (also frankincense) | modern occult compilation |
| Plant | Frankincense / bay / St John's wort (solar-fire herbs) | derived from his fire/astrology office; not a fixed grimoire datum |
| Animal | None traditional (appears as flame, then a man) | traditional grimoire (from his appearance) |
| Date-window | approx. 6-10 January | Shem angel calendar (Yeialel); dates shift by source |
Its modern Enn — a chant from the Demonolatry current, not found in any grimoire:
“Tu Fubin Amy secore”
Making a connection
Gathered from what practitioners report, put plainly — a starting point, not a rule:
- Sit with the seal above as the first meeting-place: trace it, hold it in the mind’s eye, and let impressions arrive without grabbing at them.
- Set a gentle frame. Keep it simple — a orange candle, a wednesday, a little incense, a moment of quiet. If you work the Demonolatry current, chant the Enn softly — more like settling than commanding.
- Bring the real theme. Practitioners associate Amy with uncovering hidden 'treasure' - resources, opportunity, guarded knowledge, acquiring good familiar spirits to assist the work. Name what you actually want, and ask — don’t demand.
- Journal before and after, and treat everything as your own experience, not fixed doctrine.
Rank, legions, direction and office are from the public-domain grimoires (Weyer 1577; Mathers & Crowley, The Goetia, 1904). Images are public domain: the 1904 seal. The Enn and the planet/day/colour/tarot correspondences are modern attributions (Demonolatry and compilations), flagged as such; sources disagree, and no copyrighted description or artwork is reproduced. Angel pairing per the Rudd tradition. Take the technique, never the tribe.
